Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) is a state corporation established under the Veterinary Surgeons and Veterinary Para-professionals Act of 2011 and operationalized by the Veterinary Surgeons and Veterinary Para-professionals (Veterinary Medicines Directorate) Regulations of 2015. The Directorate is mandated to regulate the manufacture, importation, exportation, registration, distribution, prescription, and dispensing of veterinary medicines and other animal health products in Kenya.

The Directorate is currently in the final stages of developing its 2023–2027 Strategic Plan. This plan outlines VMD’s mission and roadmap for five years, aimed at enhancing the core mandate of the Directorate as the regulator of Veterinary Medicines Pharmacy Practice in Kenya.

The proposed strategic goals provide a framework for planning, resource mobilization, monitoring and evaluation, and alignment of the Directorate’s work over five years.
The development of the plan was undertaken through a participatory process in which achievements, challenges, lessons learned, and future opportunities were assessed with a view to informing the priorities for the upcoming planning period.

VMD invites members of the public to review the draft Strategic Plan, which can be downloaded from the VMD website: www.vmd.go.ke. The Directorate requests you to use the feedback form available on the same webpage to send your comments. You may also email your feedback directly to strategicplan@vmd.go.ke or use Microsoft forms. All comments and feedback should reach us by 16th May 2025.
